2023

Peace of Me
2 min readDec 19, 2023

I remember starting the new year with one big expectation: to be less sick. I was just over a lingering cold and felt it was time to feel better. A few days into 2023, I caught a stomach bug. Great. Maybe it will get better the second week of January.

It turned out that 2023 was the worse year for my health. I am to blame for one health problem due to my love of sweets. Newly diagnosed with Diabetes, it took me most of the year to figure out I am insulin resistant. I tried all the pills possible, but I couldn’t tolerate any of them. I was extremely sick with heartburn, and all the side effects you could imagine. In trying to be healthier, I developed the dumping syndrome due to the use of Januvia and Jardiance. It made my life hell where it only amplify my symptoms of fibromyalgia.

While trying to get it under control, I was hit with cluster headaches. It has to be one of the most painful condition out there. I spent weeks having 4 to 8 headaches a day, all concentrated on one side, feeling like a stab behind my eye. Some headaches lasted for hours. When summer turned into fall, the headaches went away. I have been told it’s common and should come back either in the winter or spring.

I can’t count how many infections I had. Sinus and ears. UTI. Bronchitis. Covid. Name it, I had them all. In September came the tooth aches. I had 2 teeth removed with excoriating pain and gum infection.

My fibro worsened, most likely due to all my other health problems. Pain in the joints, hands, back, shoulders and extreme fatigue. My anxiety was through the roof and feeling so sick only made me depressed.

It’s December 18th. Only a few days left before the new year. I am fighting a sinus infection, due to stress. I will be wishing for the same thing in 2024. To be healthier. I sure deserve a break. I know I am strong, but like anyone else, I have my limits.
